I used 3/8"X7" strap for the uprights and the grille guard tubing is 2"OD x.120 wall thickness. I used 1/8 tread plate for the bumper skirts. I will be posting pics of the deer damage; pretty minimal, broke the top pad, tweaked the bumper, broke out my fog lights, and broke the grille shell in half but no sheetmetal or radiator/coolers damage.

Thank's for the complements everyone too. 2004 - 2008 Ford F150 - Homemade Brush Guard - I'm in high school and the entire first semester until the last day I made this brush guard in metal shop. It cost me only $30 in materials and a whole lot of work and frustration but I'd say with the end product it was well worth it.

Tractor. Kubota L5240 HSTC, JD X738 Mower, (Kubota L3130 HST - sold) It comes specified by opening size and sheet metal gage. Mine was 3/4" opening (pretty common - that is the long dimension of the diamond) and I think 9 ga. That is a perfect size for a brush guard, IMO, especially after using it, and very common.

You can probably bolt the brush guard to the existing bumper mounts, or directly to the frame. If you go to the frame, just make sure the brush guard/brush guard mounts will bend before the frame does. That being said, the bumpers I made were more or less a chunk of steel.
